Key Responsibilities Assess and monitor pregnant women during labor. Record and monitor vital signs, fetal heart rate, and labor progress. Provide physical and emotional support to mothers and their families. Administer prescribed medications and IV fluids. Prepare patients for normal and assisted deliveries. Assist obstetricians during normal, instrumental, and cesarean deliveries (when required). Maintain aseptic techniques during all procedures. Prepare and arrange delivery instruments and equipment. Assist in emergency obstetric procedures. Receive and assess newborns immediately after birth. Perform initial newborn care, including maintaining warmth and ensuring airway patency. Assist with newborn identification, documentation, and breastfeeding initiation. Recognize and report neonatal complications promptly. Follow infection prevention and control protocols. Sterilize and maintain labor room equipment. Dispose of biomedical waste according to hospital policy. Maintain accurate nursing records. Document labor progress, medications administered, delivery details, and patient outcomes. Complete birth registers and handover reports. Recognize signs of maternal and fetal distress. Respond promptly to obstetric emergencies such as postpartum hemorrhage, eclampsia, and fetal distress. Assist in neonatal resuscitation when required.
